In the heart of Pankow, on Florastraße, the "Zimmer 16" theatre is full of surprises: a cabaret stage where the improv theatre group "Im Freien Fall" performs completely freely and without a script every first Friday of the month. The audience decides what happens.
Improv Theatre at Zimmer 16: When the Audience Directs
Anyone entering Florastraße 16 in Pankow for the first time quickly realizes: many things are different here. The stage measures just 16 square meters, and the entire room is only 120 square meters with 60 seats or 90 standing places. This intimacy is not a drawback but the concept. The charming space creates proximity between artists and the audience, making every event an immediate, lively experience. With improv theatre, an additional dimension is added: nothing is rehearsed, nothing is planned.
A regular guest at Zimmer 16 is the improvisation theatre “Im Freien Fall”, which performs without a script every first Friday of the month. The audience suggests a topic, and the theatre group plays whatever comes to mind: daily soap, western, tragicomedy, or classical opera. The result is always as varied as the people sitting in the chairs. Therefore, a repeated visit is definitely worthwhile.
Cabaret, Culture, and No Standard Program
Zimmer 16 is a project of the MIKADO e.V. support association, founded in 2002 and supported exclusively by the voluntary commitment of its members and employees. This is evident on the stage, in the best sense. Zimmer 16 on Florastraße is a venue for music, theatre, comedy, and film: live, handmade, and sophisticated. In addition, the rooms of the cabaret stage also serve as an exhibition space for painting and photography.
Today, at Zimmer 16, anyone can get a full dose of culture for little money, whether young or old, with around 300 events a year. Admission for improv theatre costs 8 Euros, reduced 4 Euros. So, if you’re looking for an improv theatre evening in Berlin that doesn’t rely on a big budget or star architecture, but offers a true Berlin neighborhood spirit, Pankow is the right place.
