Stadtnatur Berlin

Treptow

At Stadtnatur Berlin, birthdays are not celebrated indoors but out in the Plänterwald in Treptow: three hours of hut building, tracking and stealth games, led by nature educators and expressly for children aged three and up. The flat rate is 180 Euros for up to fifteen children, and families bring their own food along into the forest.

Meeting Point at S-Bahn Station Plänterwald

Stadtnatur Berlin has no shop or party room, and that’s the point. The meeting point for the forest adventure is the forecourt of the S-Bahn station Plänterwald in Treptow; from there, it’s a walk into the forest. Plänterwald is one of the old forest areas in the southeast of the city, located directly on the Spree, and is large enough for a group to get lost in without actually being lost. The offer is backed by a non-profit association founded by Kathrin Scheurich in 2014; she is a nature and environmental educator. The team also includes a theatre and experience educator and a lecturer for education for sustainable development, and Bente Steffens has been leading the children’s birthdays since 2024. The association not only works with children: there are guided tours, workshops, and team days for companies, as well as projects on circular economy, waste avoidance, and climate adaptation. In addition to Plänterwald, the team also uses Großer Tiergarten and Volkspark Friedrichshain as meeting points. Since 2022, the founder has also curated neighborhood walks that focus on nature between the houses.

Three Hours of Hut Building Instead of a Party Room

According to Stadtnatur Berlin, the forest adventure is designed for children aged three and up and lasts three hours. Participants build their own camp from what the forest provides, in addition to tracking and games where children can sneak and hide. The entire activity is led by nature educators who adapt the program to the age of the children and to how the group is doing on the day; only carving starts later, for which children must be seven years old. A maximum of fifteen children are allowed, including siblings and the birthday child, and at least one adult must remain as supervision. The flat rate is 180 Euros, reduced to 150 Euros; a treasure hunt can be booked additionally. Families bring their own food and drinks, and the association recommends items that are easy to eat in the forest, such as pretzels, raw vegetables, fruit skewers, and cake without cream. Instead of waiting for good weather, the event takes place in all weather conditions; it is only postponed in case of a severe weather warning. Payment is made afterwards by invoice.
