On the edge of Fritz-Schloß-Park in Moabit, the Moabiter Kinderhof is full of life: rabbits, a herb spiral, a wood workshop, and a newly opened playhouse built with sustainable timber make this adventure playground the greenest meeting point in the neighborhood.
Moabiter Kinderhof: Building, Crafting, and Caring for Rabbits in Moabit
The Moabiter Kinderhof is an adventure and construction playground offering diverse play, movement, and educational activities for children aged 7 to 13. Since 1997, it has been operated as a pedagogically supervised playground by the district group Moabit e.V. on the edge of Fritz-Schloß-Park. What makes it special among Berlin’s children’s farms: From the very beginning, the neighborhood was involved. The planning phase was characterized by participation formats where children, in particular, could contribute their ideas.
In their free time, children can enjoy handicraft and creative activities, cook, bake, and care for animals. A highlight is the daily care of the rabbits. Additionally, sports activities, learning projects, and a garden await young visitors. Admission is free.
New Playhouse with Wood Facade and Ecological Outdoor Facilities
On October 17, 2025, the Moabiter Kinderhof was ceremonially inaugurated as part of an opening festival. Since then, a new building made of wooden cubes peeks out between old trees and lush greenery. The building is an ecological role model and, with its varying heights, projections, and wooden facade, blends well into the neighboring Fritz-Schloß-Park.
No expense was spared outdoors either. The outdoor facilities rely on ecological materials, rainwater harvesting, and robust planting. Construction corners, a herb spiral, and raised beds offer flexible play and learning spaces that children can further design. The Kinderhof’s well-known rabbit family has also received a new, larger enclosure. The Kinderhof is open Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 20:00, and on the second and fourth Saturday of the month from 13:00 to 19:00. Activities and projects can be arranged for school classes and other children’s groups by prior appointment.
