At Georg-Grosz-Platz in Charlottenburg, Paulo Scutarro serves top-level Italian cuisine – with a pizza oven from Modena and a pizzaiolo who was among the best in the world at the World Championship. Anyone looking for authentic stone oven pizza on Kudamm is in the right place here.
Paulo Scutarro: World-Class Pizza Right on Kudamm
Opposite Haus Cumberland, at Georg-Grosz-Platz in Charlottenburg, one of the best pizzaiolos in the world stands by the stone oven: Mauro David, born in Rome, took 18th place among 432 participants at the Pizza World Championship in Italy. This is not marketing, but craftsmanship with heritage. Upon entering the restaurant, the large pizza oven from Modena immediately catches the eye, into which dough discs are constantly being pushed. So, whoever orders pizza here doesn’t just get fast food, but the result of years of mastery.
Available are exquisitely topped pizzas such as the crispy Pizza Gamberoni with king prawns, tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic, and rocket, or the Pizza Tartufo with fresh truffles. The pizza with pancetta also impresses: large, juicy, with Parmesan shavings on a thin, crispy base.
More Than Just Pizza: Italy’s Full Spectrum
In addition to pizzas, juicy grilled US entrecôte, homemade pasta with salmon and lobster cream, and fried seafood and fish dishes – all prepared with high artisanal quality – are impressive. Thus, Paolo Scutarro is also worthwhile if you don’t fancy pizza.
The service is friendly and attentive, and the wine list includes drops from Gaja, Antinori, and Ornellaia. In good weather, the sun terrace at Georg-Grosz-Platz is one of the most beautiful in the city, with over 100 seats and a view of the renovated Cumberland. At lunchtime, there is also an inexpensive, weekly changing daily menu. This makes the restaurant suitable for both a quick lunch and an extended evening for two.
