Greek delicatessen and tavern all in one: In Veteranenstraße in Berlin-Mitte, you'll find sunny yellow walls, rustic tables, and shelves full of products from small Greek manufacturers. When you eat here, you can almost smell the Aegean Sea.
Rises Delicacies: More than a Greek Restaurant
Rises Delicacies is a Greek delicatessen with an adjoining cozy tavern. The concept is as simple as it is convincing: while dining, you can simultaneously buy the products that are currently on your plate. The name was chosen carefully, as “Rises” means “roots” in Greek. And that’s exactly what you feel here. Oil, wine, olives, sardine fillets, honey, truffle salt, and a counter with Greek cheese specialties all come from small Greek producers. So, no industrially produced standard cheese, but ingredients with a story.
Rises Delicacies is one of the few Greek restaurants in the city that consistently focuses on homemade food. All dishes are homemade and prepared with natural products without any additives. The charming establishment offers fresh, changing specialties daily, with three to four dishes to choose from.
Meze, Moussaka, and Homemade Yogurt
On the tavern’s small but exquisite menu, you’ll find mixed meze, fava, stuffed vine leaves, roasted sheep’s and goat’s cheese, and main courses such as moussaka, wholemeal pasta, grandma’s recipe meatballs, or pastitsio. Only first-class ingredients are used. In addition to gourmet cheese, high-quality oils, and prime meat, seductive desserts and exquisite Mediterranean wines are served. Particularly popular are also the gigantes in tomato sauce and the classic Greek salad.
If you are looking for an authentic Greek restaurant with a real tavern feel in Berlin Mitte, you should also not miss the homemade yogurt. In summer, guests sit outside at small bistro tables with a view of Weinbergspark. That’s not far from a real summer holiday in Greece.
