The Greek restaurant Cassambalis at Grolmannstraße in the immediate vicinity of Savignyplatz and the Kurfürstendamm is a well-known Greek restaurant in Charlottenburg. Owner Costa Cassambalis welcomes a mixed audience of families, small businesses, politicians and regulars from the neighborhood. Guests enjoy a high quality Greek-Mediterranean cuisine in a warm atmosphere of the bistro-style restaurant. The artwork on the walls are numerous and colorful, the beautifully arranged ceramic bowls with small dishes, and also the wine racks in the guest room are fully filled.
Depending on their taste, guests choose a small selection of mezedes or a multi-course menu with wine accompaniment. At the large antipasti buffet in the middle of the restaurant guests can choose from chorizo, lentil salad, eggplants and fish roe mousse, octopus or Parma ham. Oysters, octopus and beef carpaccio, scallops, keftedes and oyster platter are also served as starters. Afterwards, guests can enjoy a wide selection of exquisite pasta and risotto dishes with saffron, seafood, veal liver or beef fillet. The main courses consist of a good fish selection of pike perch, sea bream or, depending on the daily offer, also Loup de Mer and the typical Greek-Mediterranean meat dishes such as souvlaki, veal cheeks and entrecôte. Accompanying the meal is an extensive selection of international, especially Greek, wines. Connaisseurs conclude the menu with Greek yoghurt, nougat parfait and mousse au chocolat. Special recommendation: The homemade Tiramisu with berries is worth a try.
The Cassambalis became famous as the favorite restaurant of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In 2018 the restaurant Cassambalis was mentioned in the Michelin Guide.
