This Moabit fish restaurant is so tiny that it fits under one arch of the S-Bahn rails and is so authentic at the same time that you might think you stepped into a small harbour restaurant in Istanbul. The card here is deliberately small.

Here you can order fish, fish and fish. It’s tough to make a pick: the standards are fresh prawns, gilthead, sole, squid and fresh calamares, either fried or grilled. As a side you can order fresh bread and the salad looks very tasty, too. The best thing to do here is to ask for the chef’s recommendation and go from there. The food is prepared in a simple way but fresh and tasty, mostly grilled and pretty much straight forward.

The whole story started with a fish shop about 30 years ago, in 1992 the place turned into a restaurant which has reached cult status in the meantime. The Balikci Ergun has its own charme that you have to like. The restaurant has a host of enthusiastic fans, as impressively manifested by the countless yellow post-its with messages from guests, testimonials of people who spent a nice evening there.
