Berlin's most famous Turkish fish shack has survived. After the forced farewell from the S-Bahn arch in Moabit, Ergün's Fischbude reopened in early 2026 in Britz, Neukölln. Since 1992, this family business has stood for fresh grilled fish Istanbul style, and not a bit has changed.

Ergün`s Fischbude: Berlin cult with a new home in Neukölln

Since 1992, Balıkçı Ergün has stood for fresh grilled fish, just like you know it from Istanbul. The founder Ergün Cetinbas was far more than a fishmonger. His restaurant became a second home for all who sought true taste and honest cuisine. He passed away in October 2021. But his vision lives on: The family continues to run the restaurant with the same dedication and love.

After 30 years, Deutsche Bahn did not extend the rental contract. Following a lost court case, it was definitively over for operator Mine Çetinbaş and her team in the premises under the S-Bahn viaduct on January 1, 2026. The restaurant then appealed for donations to finance the relocation. Thousands of Euros were collected within a few months. Finally, the fish restaurant moved to Rudower Straße in Britz, a district of Neukölln.

Fresh fish, clear flavors, no compromises

The concept of the fish restaurant was always clear and has remained so to this day. Standards include fresh prawns, sea bream, sole, octopus, and fresh calamari, either fried or grilled. Also enticing are the legendary prawn pan and, according to their own statement, the best salad in Germany. The best thing guests can do is to ask the chef for his recommendation and proceed from there. Because those who hesitate with the daily catch lose out: popular fish varieties sell out quickly.

Guests praise the friendly staff, the authentic Turkish atmosphere, and homemade dishes like calamari and redfish. The atmosphere is described as cozy, with a touch of nostalgia from old pictures on the walls. The traditional Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine offers a large selection of delicious, freshly prepared dishes. So, anyone looking for a fish restaurant in Berlin that breathes history and foregoes any tourist traps will find exactly what they are looking for at Ergün`s Fischbude in Neukölln.
