Since 2014, this shop on Kollwitzstraße has been forming its patties from aged entrecôte from pasture-fed cattle, baking them in sourdough buns from a Berlin bakery, and caramelizing onions for ten hours in butter. In addition to thick steakhouse burgers, the flattened smash burger is on the menu, each also available plant-based.
Two Burger Schools Under One Roof
Three friends opened this shop on Kollwitzstraße in 2014, choosing the more elaborate path back then. The patties are made from aged entrecôte, and the beef comes from pasture-raised animals. A Berlin bakery bakes the sourdough buns, the onions caramelize in butter for ten hours until they are sweet and dark, and the sauces are made in-house, from the mild Grindhouse Sauce to the spicy variation. Two schools of thought are on the menu side-by-side: the thick steakhouse burger and the flat-pressed smash burger, single or double. The Classic Cheese remains the recommended starter, the Truffle Heaven and Blue Cheese Bliss are for guests who prefer a stronger flavor, and the Chili Cheese Porn lives up to its name for a reason. Another cheeseburger, by the way, is not even on the menu and is only served upon request. If you are unsure, ask at the counter, where you will receive straightforward advice.
Mushrooms, Milkshakes, and a Small Terrace
Beyond meat, there are also many possibilities. Every burger can be ordered with a Beyond Meat patty, the Tropical Mushroom is the in-house vegetarian option with mushrooms, and only this location offers gluten-free buns, not the second address on Potsdamer Straße. To accompany the meal, there are milkshakes from their own kitchen, a small, curated selection of beers, and classic cocktails, along with truffle and Parmesan fries or onion rings. You can expect to pay around ten to fourteen euros for a burger, with sides costing extra. In front of the building is a terrace with a few tables; inside, it’s cramped, warm, and loud enough that no one whispers. Reservations are recommended because Kollwitzstraße is one of the livelier areas of Prenzlauer Berg, and the place is correspondingly well-filled. For larger groups, the restaurant also offers catering, and everything is available for takeaway. Portions are generous; a burger with fries is enough for the entire evening.
