Techno

The Berghain is located in a district heating plant from 1953, which the operators bought themselves in 2010. There are 18 meters of air above the dance floor, the sound is provided by four Funktion-One towers, and upstairs in the Panorama Bar, house plays instead of techno. Among Berlin's techno clubs, this one has the toughest door, as cameras are taped over and there are no mirrors.

Right on the Spree in Treptow, Berlin dances as long as the sun shines. ELSE is the seasonal open-air counterpart of Salon zur Wilden Renate, offering house and techno on wooden floorboards with a view of the water.

Where Bar 25 once wrote Berlin club history, today the Kater Club stands on the Spree riverbank in Friedrichshain: an open-air club that has made the long weekend from Friday to Monday its principle.

Located on the site of a former dog biscuit factory in Rummelsburg, Sisyphos celebrates non-stop from Friday to Monday, combining techno and house with a labyrinthine outdoor area full of sand, a pond, and art installations.

Salon zur Wilden Renate is located in an old building on the Stralau peninsula, spreading three floors across former residential spaces, plus a garden for concerts and workshops. At the end of 2025, the club faced closure, but it reopened after renovation in April 2026. As a techno club in Berlin, it is the only one where you cannot pay with cash at all.

Heideglühen is not a clubhouse, but an area at Westhafen with an open space, a covered wooden floor under a glass roof, and fire pits. Primarily house music is played, admission is from 21 years old, and the club deliberately announces its line-ups quietly. Among the techno clubs in Berlin, this is the one that only provides its address as a coordinate.

Since 2002, Golden Gate has been located in an arch of the S-Bahn viaduct at Jannowitzbrücke. The premises belong to the railway, and trains run overhead. Upstairs, there are sofas and a piano; downstairs, techno and tech house play. As a techno club in Berlin, it operates consistently analog, as there is only a box office and cash payment.

Ritter Butzke operates in the halls of the Butzke-Werke from 1893, a former fittings factory in Kreuzberg. It started without any permits in 2007 before legally reopening in 2009. Up to three floors are open, with the courtyard added in summer. This Berlin techno club generally does not publish its playtimes in advance.

The About Blank at Ostkreuz is owned by a cooperative where ten people make decisions by consensus, everyone earns the same, and fees are capped. It features two floors, a garden stage, and three bars; photography is not allowed. Among Berlin's techno clubs, it's the most political, and it's located on the A100 motorway route.

Where Treptow meets Kreuzberg at Flutgraben, stands one of Berlin's most famous open-air clubs. A wooden deck, weeping willow, and canal water are as much a part of Club der Visionäre as relaxed minimal techno.

Kreuzberg, right by the lock to the Landwehrkanal: Birgit is a beer garden, open-air club, and fairground all in one. Relaxed during the day, at night dancing under the open sky until morning.

The Humboldthain Club in Wedding stands for Berlin club culture with a neighborhood vibe, where techno and house meet table tennis, and the garden becomes the heart of the night on warm summer evenings.

Tresor opened in 1991 in the vault of the Wertheim department store and has been operating since 2007 in the disused power plant on Köpenicker Straße, complete with built-in original lockers. A thirty-meter tunnel leads into the Vault, while House music plays in the Globus. Of all techno clubs in Berlin, this one has the longest Detroit connection.

Club der Visionäre is a wooden structure on the Flutgraben with a single floor where a maximum of fifty people can dance. There are also jetties over the water, a willow tree above the dance floor, and its own pizzeria. Among Berlin's techno clubs, it is the smallest and has the lowest entry fee; Ricardo Villalobos became famous here.

The MS Hoppetosse is an excursion steamer from 1928, which was sunk in 1944, later salvaged, and in the nineties, cut into pieces and dragged to Berlin. Today it lies in Osthafen, with three decks, featuring Minimal House from the Club der Visionäre team. Of all techno clubs in Berlin, this is the only one where you can experience the sunrise while swaying.
