Renate

Friedrichshain

The Salon zur wilden Renate in Friedrichshain is far more than just a club – it resembles an intricate labyrinth in a former residential building. After its surprising salvation from closure at the end of 2025, this institution of Berlin's club culture remains preserved, continuing to invite to excessive nights across several lovingly decorated floors in 2026.

A Labyrinth of Music and Art

Those who enter Renate often feel like they’re at a completely out-of-control house party in an old Berlin apartment building. The building itself is the star: an unrenovated old building whose rooms are so convoluted that one almost inevitably loses their bearings. That’s precisely what makes it so appealing. You move through narrow corridors, discover hidden seating areas, and unexpectedly end up on one of the dancefloors. Currently, please note that the popular Green Room is temporarily closed due to renovations (as of February 2026), but the Black Room with driving techno and the Red Room with more disco-like sounds ensure the usual vibe. Additionally, there’s often a Top-Secret-Floor to discover. The decoration is wonderfully eclectic, bizarre, and rich in detail – from grandma’s lamps to surreal installations on the walls. In summer, the outdoor area with its wooden verandas and swings is one of the most beautiful places in the city to catch some fresh air between sets.

Audience, Door Policy, and Practical Information

Musically, Renate covers a broad spectrum that fits perfectly into our list of techno clubs but also caters to house and disco lovers. The “Black Room” is usually the go-to for harder, more techno-oriented beats, while elsewhere it’s more melodic. The audience is colorful, often queer, glittery, and very international. The door policy is selective but noticeably more relaxed and communicative than at some other big techno neighbors. Nevertheless: purchasing a ticket in advance (via Resident Advisor) does not guarantee entry. Just be yourselves, be friendly, and know who’s playing. Important for your visit: The club is completely “cashless”, so you can only pay by card at the bars. Additionally, there is a very active awareness team that ensures all guests can feel safe. After the anxious months of closure rumors at the end of 2025, the mood is currently particularly euphoric, as the lease was extended at the last minute.

Editorial Conclusion

We are relieved that Renate remains with us. It is, for us, the ideal destination when we don’t want to commit to a single genre and are eager for exploratory journeys. Especially for long nights that seamlessly transition into day, this club is a sure bet. The atmosphere is hedonistic yet warm – a true piece of Berlin that you must experience.

Erfahrungsbericht vom 17.02.2026

Door difficulty level

The door is of average difficulty by Berlin standards. Warning: Even tickets do not guarantee entry here if your appearance doesn't fit the image (e.g., too intoxicated)

Tips for getting in

As silly as it sounds: be yourself. The door staff notices if you're trying too hard. Feel free to wear colorful clothes or glitter; the club is LGBTQ+ friendly and doesn't rely on the typical dark black aesthetic like many other Berlin techno clubs.
