For me, a good evening often begins with the right bottle. On my wanderings through the city, I noticed how much honest advice makes a difference. In these wine shops, I find not only quality but also people who love their craft. I have gathered my favorite addresses here for you.
Planet Wein is the wine shop at Gendarmenmarkt: Sommelière Anja Schröder has been running the shop on Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Straße since 2005 and has over 500 wines on display, focusing on Riesling, German Pinot Noir, and Champagne. On Fridays, wine is served openly until 11 PM, and on Thursdays, themed evenings feature seven to ten wines.
Wein und Glas Compagnie wine shop on Prinzregentenstraße in Wilmersdorf is one of Berlin's prime addresses for Bordeaux and Burgundy, offering over 350 Rieslings from 14 German wine regions. The shop hosts wine seminars starting from 40 Euros, and their own delivery team provides free delivery within Berlin for orders over 120 Euros.
Weinladen Schmidt on Heinsestraße is the Hermsdorf branch of a Berlin wine merchant that has been family-owned since 1964. The assortment includes around 415 wines, with the Palatinate region being the most represented. Once a month, there's a neighborhood tasting starting from 44 Euros, and for wine gifts, chocolates and pralines from Erich Hamann and Sawade are available.
Bruno Gibard, a Frenchman living in Berlin since 1982, has been running the wine shop Chez Bruno on Berliner Straße in Zehlendorf since 2006. The shelves feature wines from almost all regions of France, mostly from family wineries, along with Crémant, Champagne, raw milk cheese, and pâtés. Those who wish to try can order a tasting plate with a glass of wine.
Since 1994, Carsten and Stephan Holst have been bringing champagnes from small houses directly to Schöneberg. In their wine shop on Motzstraße near Nollendorfplatz, there are around 60 champagnes, for example from Gosset, Amyot or Fromentin-Leclapart; a bottle of Amyot Brut costs 35 Euros. For parties, wine is available on commission, unopened bottles can be returned.
Chef Jan Kreuzinger opened Vin Aqua Vin in 2010 on Weserstraße in Neukölln, as both a wine shop and a wine bar. The shelves primarily feature German winemakers with a focus on Riesling, as well as wines from France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, and their own Secco. It's open until 1 AM, so you can still grab a bottle late at night.
The Copenhagen Wine Shop started in 1997 as "Nix wie Wein" and has been called the Copenhagen Wine Shop since moving to Kopenhagener Straße 72 in 2015. The wine shop in Prenzlauer Berg focuses heavily on natural wine, orange wine, and Pet Nat, but also carries champagne starting from 35 Euros. Those who want to delve deeper can book one of the wine seminars starting from 20 Euros.
Vinos on Knesebeckstraße in Charlottenburg is one of six Berlin branches of the wine shop, which was founded in Kreuzberg in 1996 as Wein & Vinos. The range includes over 1,800 wines, cavas, and sherries, exclusively from Spain and Portugal. At the in-store after-work tasting, you can sample the entire program for 15 Euros.
Since 1989, the wine shop Suff on Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg has been selling wine, currently around 500 varieties, a third of which are from Germany. About 160 wines are organic, around 40 of them natural wines. Seminars for 10 to 12 people cost 39 to 49 Euros, and on the same evening, there is an 8 percent discount on the entire range.
Weinerei at Veteranenstraße 17 near Weinbergspark is the wine shop for the Forum wine bar on Fehrbelliner Straße. The core of the selection consists of organic wines from the family-owned Simon Stumpf winery in Franconian Volkach, supplemented by wines from friendly winemakers from Germany and abroad. Every wine from the shop is also served at the Forum.
