Medieval Meets Easter Holidays: The Knight Festival at Spandau Citadel

This Easter, a trip to Spandau is especially worthwhile. From April 4th to 6th, 2026, Spandau Citadel transforms into a medieval world full of knight battles, jugglers, and Celtic sounds. This marks the 19th Easter Knight Festival at the Citadel in Berlin-Spandau, one of the capital’s most enduring medieval festivals.

The heart of the festival are the tournaments: real equestrian battles, where the group Heimdalls Erben stages the liberation of the Citadel, are among the absolute highlights. In addition, there are sword fights, axe fights, and foot battles with morning stars, choreographed but deceptively real. For those who prefer music: Historical music is provided by the band “Keltania”, complemented by theatre, acrobatics, and a fire and a fakir show. The grand finale each day is a spectacular closing show with a mystical, fiery equestrian show, music, performance, and acrobatics.

Three Days of Easter Program for the Whole Family

The children’s program at the Easter Knight Festival in Spandau Citadel is also well-equipped. For younger visitors, there’s archery and crossbow shooting to try out, hand-powered carousels and a historic Ferris wheel, pony rides across the castle courtyard, and even a mouse roulette. Storytellers take children on journeys to past times, and at interactive stands, they can try out medieval crafts themselves. Furthermore: All museums and exhibitions of Spandau Citadel can be visited without additional charge, and the Juliusturm (Julius Tower) can also be climbed. Another tip: The ground of the Citadel is partly cobblestoned, so a baby carrier might be more practical than a stroller. Tickets are available online in advance or on-site at the box offices.
