Eisstockschießen Unter den Linden

In the heart of Berlin, on the festively lit boulevard Unter den Linden, Berlin on Ice’s popular curling event will take place again this year. From November 26th to December 31st, 2018, groups of eight or more people can demonstrate their athletic prowess. For this purpose, two large curling rinks are set up on the central median of the boulevard amidst Christmas lights under the linden trees. The sporty leisure fun is sweetened with appetizing food, gingerbread, and traditional Christmas mulled wine.

Four rounds are played per game, requiring two teams of eight players each, competing against each other. Each team has four throws in a round, and points are added up. The goal is always the “Daube” (jack). Players take turns. The thrown curling stones remain where they come to rest. If the target point is moved, a new one is created. Of course, teams can devise tactics to win, such as simply shooting away the opponent’s curling stone. Ultimately, the team with the most points wins.
