Mysterium Tremendum starts at the Klosterruine (monastery ruins) in Klosterstraße and performs the horror tour as live outdoor theater, with a costumed guide. In 90 minutes, it takes you through the Nikolaiviertel to execution sites, a death omen, and a mummy's curse. This special city tour in Berlin only begins after dark and costs 20 Euros.
Mysterium Tremendum: Horror Tour through Berlin’s Historic City Center
The meeting point is the Klosterruine (monastery ruins) at Klosterstraße 73a in Mitte, which are the remains of the Franciscan Monastery directly at the U-Bahn station of the same name. In the dark, this is one of the spookier places in the city center, and that’s exactly where Mysterium Tremendum begins. The tour runs as interactive live outdoor theater: the guide comes in costume, acts, and draws the group into the stories. The walk is about 90 minutes and covers approximately one and a half kilometers, entirely outdoors. It does not go into cellars, narrow dark rooms, or towers, and because the route only leads over cobblestones and a curb, it is accessible with wheelchairs and strollers. Intoxicated guests are excluded from the tour, and it runs in all weather conditions. Those who are sensitive to jump scares should know that the performers come very close to the group along the way.
Execution Sites, Mummies, and a Death Omen in the Nikolaiviertel
The route winds through the oldest part of Berlin, including the Nikolaiviertel, staying close to the original locations. It tells which murderer processed people into canned meat here, why a death omen is said to walk through the alleys, and where an eerie curse emanates from mummies. The stories are not fictional but are based on facts that the team has gathered from old books and city chronicles. Anyone who is still alive at the end receives a small gift. Mysterium Tremendum only lets the group start when it’s truly dark outside, which accounts for a good part of its effect. It costs 20 Euros, discounted 16 Euros. Advance registration is mandatory, and rebooking or cancellation is possible up to 24 hours beforehand. The tour is recommended for ages 12 and up; dogs must stay at home for safety reasons. The same brand also offers tours through the old towns in Leipzig and Görlitz, and a crime tour through Berlin is a new addition to their program.
