Contemporary Art in a Historic Villa

Haus am Waldsee in Berlin’s Zehlendorf district presents contemporary art in changing exhibitions within a historic villa on the outskirts of the city. Opened immediately after World War II in 1946, the house has been characterized by an tireless commitment to art from the very beginning. Instead of city noise, here you’ll find art, forest, and water on one property. Up to four exhibitions per year, as well as regular interventions in the garden, accompanied by concerts, readings, and performances, address central themes of our time. The program never seems overloaded, but rather concentrated and well-thought-out. As an exhibition house, Haus am Waldsee showcases international art in Berlin. A sculpture park, educational programs, and a café complete the offering.

Between Sculpture Park, Café, and Curated Exhibitions

This small art center is housed in a beautiful old villa, situated in a magnificent garden directly on a small lake. The exhibitions, while manageable in size, are typically exceptionally well-curated and presented in a very special ambiance. If you wish, you can enjoy delicious pastries and hot drinks in the café and take them into the large garden. This works not only in summer: Haus am Waldsee also cuts a fine figure in the snowy winter. For families, a look at the program is especially worthwhile: children, families, and all interested parties are invited to create their own images of Haus am Waldsee at the drop-in workshops. From Mitte, the S1 train takes 30 minutes to Mexikoplatz, from there it’s another five-minute walk. So no more excuses for a boring Sunday.
