Film Art at silent green
Kino Arsenal belongs to Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art e.V. and is dedicated to film art. Since 2026, it has a new home: the Westhalle in the silent green cultural quarter in Berlin-Wedding. In the listed former crematorium, a cinema hall with 180 seats was set up under the historic dome, offering all analogue and digital screening options including Dolby Atmos. For the first time, cinema, archive, distribution, as well as the Berlinale Forum and Forum Expanded are united in one place here.
The program often consists of thematic series that mix films from the archive of the Deutsche Kinemathek with ambitious new productions, thus forming a counterpoint to current blockbusters. Past series were dedicated to, for example, Paris in film, Chinese film history, or the work of Martin Scorsese. The association started as a student film club with the Friends of the Cinematheque in 1963 and has been firmly anchored in Berlin’s film scene for over 60 years.
