The cinema Kino Arsenal is part of an institute for cinematics which is why you often won’t find any blockbusters on their schedule. Their program is made up of different themes, mixed with films from the museum archives as well as with ambitious new films, thus creating a balance to current blockbusters.
Past theme screenings dealt among others with Paris in movies, the history of Chinese film or a retrospection of the cinematic work of cult director Martin Scorcese (Taxi Driver, Good Fellas, Aviator or Shutter Island). The Arsenal started in 1963 as “Friends of Cinematics” as a students’ film club and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.
Secret advice: During Berlinale the event series “Culinary Cinema” is quite famous. It combines movies and culinary treats.
