A little hidden, in the third backyard of the Höfe am Südstern in Kreuzberg, lies the small, relaxed arthouse cinema, which has since become an institution.
Berlin’s Highest Cinema in Kreuzberg
For more than 25 years, the Sputnik Kino in Kreuzberg has been showing a diverse mix of international arthouse hits, new German films, and cinematic insider tips. As host of BRITISH SHORTS, the small program cinema on Südstern is firmly established in Berlin’s film festival scene. The OPEN SCREENING is also legendary; the uncensored forum for amateur filmmakers and professionals. Readings and concerts can also be experienced in Berlin’s highest cinema.
When the Sputnik was founded, the courtyards were still dilapidated buildings, but it has preserved its very special Kreuzberg Sputnik charm to this day. By the way: Those who make it to the 5th floor are rewarded with a great view from one of the balconies. Unique are the brick seating rows in cinema hall 1, where there are also two-seaters for couples.
