The Hohenschönhausen Memorial is located in the former central Stasi prison of the GDR.

Here, primarily political opponents of the SED were imprisoned. Even regime critics from West Berlin were kidnapped and brought here! Visitors can tour the cells, as well as other areas such as the prison hospital or the so-called “tiger cages” – areas in the prison yard completely shielded with barbed wire. Contemporary witnesses share their experiences in the detention center.
