The Ökowerk Berlin on Teufelssee is a place of learning and experience in a historic industrial complex, Berlin’s oldest existing waterworks in the middle of Grunewald. Those who come here with children enter a site that feels like another world. The 2.8 ha site features themed gardens, various wild bee nesting walls, an orchard meadow, and several ponds that are ideal for nature observations. It’s by no means just about looking: families can observe frogs, tadpoles, water snails, small water snakes, and other pond inhabitants in the ponds. In addition, a detour to the Water Life Information Center is worthwhile, as you can learn all sorts of exciting things about the element of water: How much water does a T-shirt need? What do bogs reveal about our climate? In the engine house, built in 1871, the old steam engines can also be viewed during guided tours.

Ökowerk Berlin: Children’s outing, holiday program, and children’s birthday party

The Ökowerk is far more than a classic excursion destination for families in Berlin. With its events, it caters to families, school classes and daycare groups, interested adults, as well as children who want to spend their holidays or celebrate their birthday there. The holiday program runs during almost all Berlin school holiday weeks: Under the guidance of adults trained in environmental education, children track down various natural phenomena, with the weekly motto providing a framework, but also allowing children to bring in their own wishes. Those planning a children’s birthday party will also find what they’re looking for here: children between 5 and 12 years can immerse themselves in nature for three hours and dedicate themselves to their favorite topic. In addition, survival courses for 8 to 12-year-olds, wood courses in the wood workshop, tracking, and animal and plant observations await curious young nature researchers. Thus, the Ökowerk Berlin remains a children’s outing and family excursion that works at any time of year.
