Berlin's most famous Thai Lawn is located in Wilmersdorf and has long been an institution: Saturdays and Sundays, from April to September, Württembergische Straße at Preußenpark transforms into Germany's largest Thai Street Food Market, where over 20 stalls bring authentic Southeast Asian flavors to the city.

From Picnic to Berlin Tradition: The Thai Lawn in Preußenpark

In the 90s, the Thai Park began as a meeting point for Thais, Filipinos, Vietnamese, and other Asians who had come to Germany. Originally conceived as a small picnic in the park, this gathering quickly became a popular market for Asian food. Today, the Thai Market at Preußenpark is officially registered, and although the improvised cooking stalls have become professional stands, this has not diminished its authenticity.

The move to Württembergische Straße took place in 2024 to re-naturalize the heavily used green spaces in Preußenpark. The decision was made by the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. A petition with almost 41,000 signatures could not prevent the relocation, but the new location still offers the opportunity to enjoy authentic street food. So, whoever is looking for the Thai Lawn will now find it right next to the park.

Street Food Market Berlin: What the Thai Lawn Has to Offer

Over 20 stalls await visitors with authentic Asian food. The offerings range from classics like Pad Thai and curries to grilled meat and seafood, as well as desserts and exotic snacks like fried insects. Those who prefer to play it safe can opt for Mango Sticky Rice or freshly squeezed coconut water. Stalls offering traditional Thai massages directly on the lawn also contribute to the charm of the Thai Lawn.

The Street Food Market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from April to September, and admission is free. There are no fixed opening hours, so it’s best not to arrive too late, as some stalls might close or the best food might already be sold out. The market generally takes place in all weather conditions, and many stalls have roofs. However, in extreme weather conditions, individual stalls may remain closed or the entire market may be canceled. The best way to reach the Thai Lawn is by taking the U3 or U7 to Fehrbelliner Platz.
