Käfer Dachgarten-Restaurant im Deutschen Bundestag

In Berlin's government district, high atop the Reichstag building, sits arguably the most historic restaurant in the capital. The Käfer Dachgarten-Restaurant is the only public restaurant in a parliament building worldwide, offering panoramic views over the Spree, Brandenburg Gate, and Chancellery.
The Käfer Dachgarten-Restaurant: Dining where democracy is made
Some restaurants score with their interior, others with their menu. The Käfer Dachgarten-Restaurant in the German Bundestag achieves both simultaneously and adds another layer: High above the city, Feinkost Käfer operates the world’s only public restaurant in a parliament building. The view of the government district is not mere decoration, but the actual event. Particularly impressive is the accessible glass dome by architect Sir Norman Foster, which is intended to symbolize transparency in politics while offering a wide view over Berlin.
Those who manage to get a table can look forward to modern German cuisine with regional flair. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake, as well as an upscale dinner. The cuisine is German with French accents, and the menu changes every two to three months. In addition, there are dishes such as smoked prawns with scallop and orecchiette or Duroc blood sausage with Boskoop apple and mashed potatoes. Also: With every reservation, guests automatically gain access to the glass dome and rooftop terrace.
Reservation and practical information
However, spontaneous visits are not possible here. The restaurant is located within the security area of the German Bundestag. Therefore, reservations, personal data, ID, and arrival time must be prepared more carefully than for a normal Berlin restaurant. Specifically, this means: names and birth dates of all guests must be provided at least 48 hours before the visit for admission to be granted. The restaurant also asks guests to arrive at the security check at the West entrance approximately 15 minutes before their reservation time. Those who agree to this will, in return, get one of Berlin’s most spectacular tables, daily from 9 AM to 11 PM.
