Zur Bratpfanne: A Steglitz Institution since 1949

Since 1949, Zur Bratpfanne has enjoyed a top reputation and is one of the city’s oldest Currywurst stands. The stand is located on Schlossstraße in Steglitz, in the middle of one of Berlin’s busiest shopping streets in the southwest. If you get hungry after strolling through Schlossstraße, you can quickly and easily satisfy your hunger here. Very close by is the listed Titania-Palast, one of Berlin’s most traditional theater palaces, which now houses a cinema with several auditoriums. It’s also worth taking a look at the Bierpinsel, the striking Steglitz landmark in 70s style. Back to Zur Bratpfanne: RBB recognized it as number 1 among 30 Berlin cult snack bars. There are no coincidences. Berlin taxi drivers love this stand, and many restaurant owners also stop here at night on their way home.

What’s to eat at Zur Bratpfanne?

Currywurst in Berlin has many faces, but at Zur Bratpfanne, you know from the start what you’re getting. You order: Currywurst with or without skin. We found the version with skin crispier and more flavorful, which makes it stand out from other stands for us. The Currywurst and the ketchup are freshly prepared daily according to a cherished family recipe. Their own sauce is based on a recipe passed down for over 50 years. You can taste it. Along with that, there are crispy fries with mayo, which we particularly enjoyed. In addition to Currywurst with and without skin, the menu also features Bouletten (meatballs), Rostbratwurst (grilled sausage), hamburgers, filet skewers, schnitzel, and of course, fries. The ketchup is also available for purchase in bottles, so you can enjoy the taste at home. However, vegetarian options are not the main focus at this classic Currywurst stand. If you want to experience Currywurst in its purest form in Berlin, you simply cannot pass by Zur Bratpfanne.
