The German name "Dicke Wirtin" translates literally to "plump in-keep" and for many decades this typical Berlin pub has been sailing on the waves of success just like Anna Stanscheck, its original "plump inn-keep", would have liked it. She was an impressive woman well-known for her big heart, her stews, her affection towards the poor students of the nearby University of Fine Arts and her harsh sympathy for artists, authors and actors alike. Good Berlin-style food, an easy-going atmosphere and a delicious beer on tap have earned the place a host of regulars and a popularity which exceeds the Berlin city limits by far.
