The Lir Irish Bar

For over 30 years, The Lir Irish Bar in Tiergarten-Mitte, Berlin, has been the city's best-known secret tip among Irish pubs. No cliché decor, no tourist hustle and bustle: the pub on Flensburger Straße focuses on genuine "Good Craic", well-kept Guinness, and live music in a turn-of-the-century vaulted cellar.
The Lir Irish Bar: More than a Pub in Hansaviertel
Between Hansaviertel and the Spree stands one of the city’s longest-running pubs. The Lir Irish Bar is located on Flensburger Straße in the historic Berlin district of Tiergarten-Mitte, built in classic turn-of-the-century architecture. The pub is housed in the basement of one of the few old buildings in Hansaviertel, an area otherwise characterized by modern architecture. This gives The Lir a unique spatial characteristic. The bare brick walls appear rustic and cozy in candlelight. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is anything but museum-like.
The inviting atmosphere with polished golden-yellow brickwork, warm light, an open fireplace, and a green beer garden under palm trees runs like a common thread through the concept: authentic Irish ambiance, the best drinks, and high-quality food at affordable prices. Whoever comes in here tends to stay longer than planned.
Guinness, Live Sports and good Pub Food
The drink selection is solid and no-frills. In addition to Irish stouts, ales, and ciders, as well as Guinness and Kilkenny, there are also wines, whiskeys, cocktails, and German beers. Where other pubs often serve greasy snacks, here, attention is paid to the quality of fish and chips, pies, or curry. Even the cocktails can easily compete with the city’s bars.
The Lir provides the perfect setting for concerts. In the adjacent Lir Arena, football and other sports events are broadcast. There is also space for live music and parties. In summer, you can sit sheltered from the wind and far from the noise in the small beer garden under palm trees, a few steps below street level. In winter, a cozy fire in the open fireplace provides warmth in the Irish-designed dining room. In short: you have to experience this pub for yourself.
