Yorckschlösschen: Kreuzberg Kiez Legend with Live Music

The Yorckschlösschen is considered the music bar in Kreuzberg with the longest and most colorful tradition. Those who enter the venue feel reminded of a music bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans: the walls and pillars are densely decorated with musical memorabilia, stucco, chandeliers, and wood paneling create a nostalgic atmosphere. The stage stands in the center of the room, framed by a wooden railing, and the audience is just an arm’s length away. That’s exactly what makes an evening here so special: live music up close and personal.

Music is played every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. The program includes jazz, blues, soul, swing, and funk. Admission is free. Instead, a hat is passed around for the bands. This primarily benefits the predominantly local musicians who create great music on the Yorckschlösschen stage.

In addition to live music, there’s hearty cuisine at fair prices. For operators Olaf Dähmlow and Michael Geisler, it’s important that the regular guests from the neighborhood feel comfortable. Cocktails are not on the menu, but there are long drinks, a good selection of wines, spirits, and draught beer. Particularly recommended are the three authentic Kreuzberg house beer varieties: light, dark, or unfiltered. If you want a table for concert time, you should plan ahead. A reservation a few days in advance is recommended, and it’s best to arrive at least an hour before the concert begins.
