Jewish Berlin Tour

On his tour on Jewish life in Berlin guide Jörg Benario treats the touchy subject of the Holocaust rather with wit and a sense of Jewish humour than with uptight embarrassment.

Benario dares to do so although and just because his very family history is closely linked to the fate that many Jews had to suffer in Germany. His ancestor Rudolf Benario is said to be one of the first Jews to be murdered by the Nazis in a concentration camp.

Some of the central subjects of Jörg Benario’s individual tours are walks through the Scheunenviertel, a centre of Jewish life in old Berlin which is also the site of the Neue Synagoge (New Synagogue), as well as the Jewish Museum, the Jewish Cemetery at Weißensee or the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial. Special tour subjects are for example Giesebrechtstraße, where so called “stumbling blocks” as memorial were embedded in the pavement to commemorate the 120 Jews who lived and who where deported from there and the memorial ” Platform 17″ at the train station Grunewald.

What exactly will be covered in your tour and how long the tour duration will be, is discussed individually, a group size of 4 people is ideal. Tours are available in German and English.
