Flughafen Tempelhof-Führung

In the heart of Tempelhof lies one of Europe's most significant architectural monuments. Tours of the former Tempelhof Airport take guests on a journey through Nazi history, the Berlin Airlift, and the Cold War. All tours start at the CHECK-IN visitor center at Platz der Luftbrücke.
Tempelhof Airport: Where History Comes Alive
Tempelhof Airport is Europe’s largest architectural monument. That alone makes it intriguing. Built between 1936 and 1941, the building represents the self-staging of the National Socialists and became a symbol of freedom in 1948/49 through the Berlin Airlift. Such a concentration of history in one place is rare. The weekend tours are therefore not just a mandatory program, but genuine substance for anyone who wants more than the usual tourist trails.
During the two-hour tours, local guides will explore the most impressive parts of the 300,000-square-meter airport building with you and uncover the secrets behind numerous legends. Forced laborers toiled in the hangars during World War II, and one floor above, US soldiers played basketball during the 1948/49 airlift. So you don’t just take a stroll, but gain a new understanding of Berlin.
Myth, Bunkers, and Hidden Places
In addition to the classic Mythos Tour, there is also a two-hour underground tour through bunkers, air-raid shelters, and cellars of the former airport. This provides fascinating insights into the still visible traces from the Nazi era.
Knowledgeable guides lead to the most interesting parts of the imposing building: from the former check-in hall to the US sections and the transit corridors with views of today’s Tempelhofer Feld. Tickets for public tours are usually bookable approximately four weeks in advance and can be purchased online or on site at the visitor center. Groups are small and places are limited; sold-out dates cannot be rebooked on site. The meeting point is the CHECK-IN visitor center at Platz der Luftbrücke 5.
