A microbrewery as a football pub: Hops & Barley in Friedrichshain, near Boxhagener Platz, combines home-brewed craft beer with a genuine fan pub atmosphere. If you're looking for Bundesliga, Champions League, and fresh draught pilsner all under one roof, this is the place to be.

Hops & Barley: When the brewery becomes a football pub

Beer has been brewed in the former Schulz butcher shop since 2008. Since then, the old shop in Wühlischstraße has become one of Berlin’s most popular football pubs. The 100-year-old Art Nouveau tiles surprisingly fit well with a brewery. So, if you’re looking for a place that breathes history and simultaneously brings modern football to the screen, you’ll find both here. Because as cozy and rustic as the guest room with its long wooden tables may seem, they take sports very seriously here.

Football fans can watch Bundesliga, Champions League, and Europa League matches here on two screens, with the smoking room specifically reserved for supporters of Borussia Mönchengladbach. This is no coincidence, but intentional: Hops & Barley is considered a microbrewery and cult pub for all fans of Borussia Mönchengladbach and is the meeting point for Berlin’s ‘Fohlen’ (foals, their nickname). So, if you’re looking for like-minded people in the capital, you now know where they are.

Craft Beer and Matchday: How it works here

Of course, the best thing to drink with football is fresh draught beer. In addition to traditional beer types like Pilsner, Amber, Dark, and Wheat, they also always brew specialty beers such as IPA, Pale Ale, Bockbier, or Stout. Furthermore, there’s naturally cloudy, homemade cider, which matures in the barrel and is also served unfiltered. The kitchen also serves homemade tarte flambée. In short: Hops & Barley not only provides football fans with images from the pitch but also with everything needed during halftime. However, a tip: if you want to secure a spot, you should come early, as this small pub has made a name for itself with its delicious beer and personal atmosphere.
