A film that attracted a lot of attention during its filming was "Valkyrie" in 2007.
Near the Tiergarten is the historic building complex “Bendlerblock”. On July 20, 1944, Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, a German resistance fighter, planned an assassination attempt on Hitler in the Bendlerblock. However, the attack failed. In the courtyard of the complex, Stauffenberg and other co-conspirators were murdered after the failed assassination attempt. Currently, the complex is used by the Federal Ministry of Defense. A memorial in the courtyard of the Bendlerblock commemorates the German resistance.
The film “Valkyrie” is precisely about this resistance movement. Initially, it was questionable whether the film would even get a filming permit for the Bendlerblock because of Tom Cruise in the role of Stauffenberg. Then the accident on set, in which some actors fell from a moving truck. All of this attracted many onlookers around the filming of the 80 million dollar Hollywood production.
