Autumn is my favourite Berlin season, because the city glows in warm colours and comes to rest. For this list, I roamed over the Teufelsberg and through the Botanical Garden with leaves crunching underfoot. Where I lingered longest was the Mueggelturm, where you simply cannot get enough of the view over the red forests. I am taking you along on a golden ramble through the city.
On the former Tempelhof marshalling yard, where the last train rolled in 1952, birches now grow between the tracks. The steam locomotive 50 3707, the water tower from 1927, and a 600-meter-long steel walkway provide strong motifs in Natur-Park Schöneberger Südgelände. For autumn photos in Berlin, this means: industrial culture amidst colorful foliage for 1 Euro entry.
The Berlin Müggelturm stands on the Kleiner Müggelberg in Köpenick. 126 steps lead to the platform at a height of approximately 30 meters. From there, the view extends over Lake Müggelsee and the Dahme, reaching up to 60 kilometers on a clear day. For an autumn excursion in Berlin, this means the colorful forests of the Müggelberge lie directly at your feet.
Located in a former building of Görlitzer Bahnhof in Kreuzberg, Berlin's first black light mini-golf course features 18 UV-lit holes across five painted theme rooms, from the Brandenburg Gate to an underwater world. A round takes about one to one and a half hours and costs 13 Euros. Ideal as an autumn activity in Berlin, as rain is not an issue here.
Right next to Teufelsberg in Grunewald lies Drachenberg, a 99-meter high rubble hill with a treeless plateau, where kites of all sizes take to the wind in autumn. 280 steps lead up from Teufelsseechaussee, admission is free. For autumn activities in Berlin, the rule here is: no branches in the string and a view all the way to the TV Tower.
The Havelhöhenweg leads about 10 kilometers from Heerstraße to Wannsee Beach over the steep bank of the Havel in Grunewald. Along the way are the 55-meter-high Grunewald Tower, the Schildhorn peninsula, and numerous viewpoints overlooking the Havel. For an autumn stroll in Berlin, this means: golden foliage, water views, and constant ups and downs.
Peacock Island in the Havel near Wannsee is only accessible by ferry, a connection that has existed since 1821. On 67 hectares of UNESCO World Heritage, there are around 400 old oak trees, the white pleasure palace from 1794, and Berlin's oldest rose garden, with peacocks roaming freely in between. As an autumn excursion in Berlin, this means: golden foliage, water all around, and hardly any traffic noise.
After three years of modernization, the Aquarium Berlin at the Zoological Garden reopened in August 2026. New features include interactive tables and animals like the inland taipan, while the walk-through crocodile hall and one of the world's largest jellyfish breeding facilities remain. For gloomy autumn days in Berlin, this means tropical warmth and sharks, daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.
The Sultan Hamam on Bülowstraße in Schöneberg has been located on the second floor of a former factory since 1999. Heated marble benches, a steam hamam, a sauna with around 80 degrees Celsius, and tea from the samovar thoroughly warm you up after a cold day. For wet autumn days in Berlin, this means: three hours of warmth for 28 Euros, six days exclusively for women.
An indoor activity for rainy days and an exciting family trip can be had at the SEA LIFE Center with the AquaDom near Alexanderplatz.
The Berlin Botanical Garden in Dahlem showcases approximately 20,000 plant species across 43 hectares; in autumn, maples and oaks glow in the North American section. If it gets too cold outside, the Great Tropical House from 1907 awaits with giant bamboo reaching 26 meters high. For autumn activities in Berlin, this means: Indian Summer and tropical warmth with a ticket for 10 euros.
