The Futurium: Where the Future Invites Participation

There are many attractions for young people in Berlin, but the Futurium in the government district is a real exception among them. Admission is free, the aspirations are high, and the result is astonishingly entertaining. The foundation of the house is a simple but powerful question: „How do we want to live?” The fact that no ready-made answer awaits makes the visit so appealing. Instead, three large thought spaces on the topics of humanity, nature, and technology invite reflection, discussion, and experimentation. Robot shows, a spectacular marble run, a city-building game, and interactive stations turn a museum visit into a real experience. In addition, since May 2025, the new thematic focus „Future Fields” has been running, showcasing approaches to tomorrow’s agriculture and land use, from AI in arable farming to indoor farming.

Lab, Skywalk, and Current Special Exhibitions

The Futurium Lab, in particular, captivates young people. There, future technologies like artificial intelligence and 3D printing can be directly tried out. Those exploring the exhibition can also use the free digital audio guide, which specifically leads to the highlights of the current thematic focus. A current special exhibition on the future of the oceans, „Ocean Futures”, also complements the program until September 2026 with an expansive installation made from recycled materials. To conclude, a trip to the Skywalk is worthwhile: The building’s roof offers a 360-degree view of Berlin and is part of one of the city’s most sustainable museum buildings, which is almost self-sufficient in energy. The Futurium is closed on Tuesdays, otherwise open daily from 10:00, and until 20:00 on Thursdays.
