Weinbar Rutz

Mitte

The Rutz wine bar in Berlin Mitte stands for what many wine bars promise but few deliver: a wine list with over 900 positions, with a focus on Riesling, complemented by down-to-earth German cuisine from the kitchen of a three-star chef. On Chausseestraße, you can relax in a way that is rare at this level.

Rutz Wine Bar: Where the Wine List Becomes the Main Attraction

Since 2001, Rutz has been welcoming wine lovers at Chausseestraße 8 in Berlin Mitte. The original concept of a wine bar, restaurant, and wine retail has evolved into the top establishment it is today, run by the owner family Anja and Carsten Schmidt. What makes the wine bar so special to this day: its wine list, comprising over 900 wine positions, focuses on Riesling, making it one of the city’s best wine destinations. The multi-award-winning wine list offers over 850 individual bottlings, and if you need guidance with your selection, you’re in good hands with the sommelier. In 2025, Nancy Großmann was named Sommelière of the Year at the Falstaff Wine Trophy. For wine bar standards, that’s a statement.

Cuisine, Atmosphere, and the Best of Both Worlds

In the wine bar, Head Chef Marco Müller serves rustic, down-to-earth German cuisine with a focus on perfectly aged meat. Rutz thus offers something rarely found in Berlin in this combination: snacks and dishes that appear casual but come from the same kitchen that the Michelin Guide 2025 has honored for the fifth consecutive time as the only Berlin restaurant with three stars and the Green Star. In summer, a spot on the terrace is also worthwhile: Rutz then opens its courtyard-facing terrace on the first floor, far from Berlin’s streets, surrounded by grapevines from renowned and friendly winemakers. So, anyone looking for one of Berlin’s best wine bars without sacrificing culinary excellence will find both here with rare consistency.
