On Kurfürstenstraße in City West, Il Sorriso is one of Berlin's oldest and most enduring upscale Italian restaurants. For over 25 years, politicians, celebrities, and gourmets have frequented this establishment for classic Italian cuisine and daily fresh market fish. The smile embedded in its name characterizes the entire house.

Il Sorriso: Where City West has been dining for decades

Located at Kurfürstenstraße 76, Il Sorriso is one of the oldest Italian restaurants in City West and has earned this status. In addition to Horst Köhler, Gerhard Schröder, and Wolfgang Schäuble, Vitali Klitschko, Gregor Gysi, and Roland Kaiser have also dined here, yet the establishment never feels pretentious. The atmosphere remains pleasantly relaxed and exceptionally hospitable.

The interior is quite opulent: murals, various decorative pieces, and an impressive wine cabinet characterize the indoor space. If the weather permits, guests should take a seat outside. On the terrace, the water garden with its amphorae can be enjoyed in peace.

Fresh Market Fish and Homemade Pasta

When it comes to food, Il Sorriso demonstrates why it retains so many regular guests for so long. The kitchen focuses on traditional classics like Vitello Tonnato and fine fish soups, while pasta is freshly prepared daily. The homemade Spaghettini del Marinaio are particularly popular. The heart of the menu is fish: from the daily fresh market fish, guests can choose between sea bream and sea bass, and the whole sole is either pan-fried in butter or grilled.

Additionally, there is an Italian wine list that accompanies seasonally changing specialties. Those unsure about their selection will find reliable guidance from the attentive service team, from appetizer to dessert. Il Sorriso has cooked its way to its reputation over decades.
