Sisaket on Dircksenstraße between Alexanderplatz and Hackesche Höfe

Sisaket is located on Dircksenstraße, where the S-Bahn viaducts accompany the path from Alexanderplatz to Hackesche Höfe. Alexanderplatz and Weinmeisterstraße are both within walking distance, making this address one of the best-connected on this list. However, the restaurant started in a completely different location: the first address was a few steps from Checkpoint Charlie; it was only about ten years later that the establishment moved to its current location.

Sisaket was founded by the current owner’s mother and is now run by the second generation. It is closely connected to the parent restaurant Mao Thai, but is consciously managed with its own distinct identity. The dining area includes a bar, a terrace, and a courtyard; the establishment provides its own accessibility information for access. Reservations can be made online or by phone, which is a good idea on evenings with events at Alexanderplatz.

Isaan Specialties and House Dishes at Sisaket

The kitchen serves two lines: well-known classics from Central Thailand and the heartier, acid-accented dishes from the rural Isaan region in the Northeast, for which there is a separate Thai menu. From Isaan come the soup Gaeng Oom Gai, the pork salad Nam Tok Muh, the papaya salad Som Tam, and the grilled Issan sausage. The house special is simply called Ped Sisaket; it is a duck and costs 24.90 Euros. A Phad Thai is 12.90 Euros.

More elaborate is the Ho Mok Maprao Thaleh, seafood in red curry, served in a fresh coconut. For larger groups, four menus are available, ranging from a simple Isaan menu to a multi-course compilation. For lunch, the menu changes daily and is significantly smaller; these dishes are also available for take-away after telephone pre-order. Vegetarian options are consistently available for soups, curries, and wok dishes.
