The owners of Markthalle Neun have kicked off all street food events in Berlin with their Street Food Thursday. Various other successful events like the Naschmarkt (Sweets Market) or the Breakfast Market followed suit.

The Markthalle Neun in Kreuzberg is no ordinary market. It is a meeting place for neighbors, a hub for culinary discoveries, and the home of Berlin’s street food movement. Visitors immediately feel the unique mix of history, creativity, and enjoyment. And at its heart lies the famous Street Food in der Markthalle Neun, which has long achieved cult status.

The Beginning: Street Food Thursday

It all started in spring 2013 with a simple idea: bringing people from all over the world together at one long wooden table. This gave birth to Street Food Thursday. Since then, every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the hall has turned into a vibrant melting pot of flavors. The variety is endless – from British pies and Thai tapioca dumplings to Nigerian FuFu. And of course, the popular ice cream sandwiches from Zwei Dicke Bären are a must. They have become an iconic part of Street Food in der Markthalle Neun.

Sweet or Savory: Markets for Every Taste

But this was only the beginning. Soon, more events followed. The Naschmarkt quickly became a favorite for those with a sweet tooth, offering macarons, vegan muffins, and creamy spreads like Dulce de Leche – all lovingly handmade.

Another highlight is the Breakfast Market, held every third Sunday of the month. Here, everything revolves around the perfect start to the day. Instead of the classic bread-and-jam breakfast, visitors enjoy Eggs Benedict, Vietnamese porridge, or fresh wheatgrass smoothies. Each edition brings new flavors and surprises – just like the ever-changing world of Street Food in der Markthalle Neun.

Variety Through Special Events

Beyond the regular dates, special highlights take place throughout the year. One example is Cheese Berlin, attracting cheese lovers from across Europe. Beer festivals, wine markets, and other food-themed events also bring extra life and variety to the hall.

A Market That’s Always Alive

Even without major events, Markthalle Neun is worth a visit. Many permanent stalls are open daily, offering fresh vegetables, artisan bread, cheese, and regional specialties. With a clear focus on sustainability and quality, Markthalle Neun remains authentic, vibrant, and deeply connected to its community – with Street Food in der Markthalle Neun always at its core.

More Than Just Food

In the end, Markthalle Neun is about more than eating. It is a place where neighbors meet, producers share their stories, and guests take away a piece of Berlin’s lifestyle. Anyone who has experienced Street Food in der Markthalle Neun on a Thursday evening knows: it’s not only about food trends. It’s about community, diversity, and the joy of sharing.
