Street Food in der Markthalle Neun

Thursday evening in Kreuzberg means: Street Food Thursday at Markthalle Neun. In the historic hall on Eisenbahnstraße, Berlin's most famous street food market transforms into a multicultural spectacle from 5 PM, which has set the benchmark for all street food markets in the city since 2013.
Street Food Thursday at Markthalle Neun: Berlin’s Culinary Living Room
Since 2013, Street Food Thursday has proven that Berlin can offer more than just currywurst and kebab. Initiated by Kavita Meelu, Anna Lai, and Tobias Bürger, Street Food Thursday was the first market of its kind in all of Germany. Since then, it has become an indispensable part of the Kreuzberg neighborhood. Markthalle Neun has stood in Kreuzberg since 1891, but on Thursdays, it transforms into a multinational, multisensory celebration of street food.
Every Thursday from 5 PM to 10 PM, Markthalle Neun becomes a platform for chefs without their own restaurant, but with ideas, attitude, and skill. Those who arrive early clearly have the better chances. Because by around 7 PM, it gets crowded at the popular Kreuzberg get-together in Markthalle Neun. Furthermore, it’s good to know: most stands only accept cash.
Between Thai Dumplings, Peruvian Ceviche, and Craft Beer
Every Thursday, the diversity of Berlin’s food scene can be discovered here: Thai dumplings, Brazilian tapioca flatbreads, Mexican tacos, Allgäu mac and cheese, Peruvian ceviche, Nigerian Fu Fu, American barbecue, and Korean buns. The offerings rotate, so even regular guests can regularly find something new. Many chefs also test their future restaurant concepts at Street Food Thursday for their audience readiness.
Besides the food, it’s also worth taking a look at the drink counter. Heidenpeters is a permanent craft beer bar in the hall, brewing its beer directly on-site and considered one of the best places for craft beer in Berlin. Thus, Thursday evening at the Street Food Market quickly becomes an overall experience. If you haven’t yet visited Markthalle Neun, you should change that promptly.
