Bejte Ethiopia

Ethiopian cuisine eaten with your hands, a traditional coffee ceremony, and an interior that transports you to Africa: Bejte Ethiopia in Schöneberg has been a well-established address for over two decades for anyone wanting to eat authentic African food in Berlin.
Injera, Wot and Sambussa: African Specialties at Bejte Ethiopia
The basis of every meal at Bejte Ethiopia is injera, a sourdough flatbread considered a staple food in Ethiopia and forming the foundation for every dish. The restaurant serves wot with it, a vegetable or meat sauce that you scoop up with the injera. You eat with your hands. The menu focuses on meat and vegetarian dishes, garnished with African specialties. The crispy sambussa and the mixed platter, which allows you to try several dishes at once, are also particularly popular. Among the beverages, the many Ethiopian coffee specialties and the African Dju Dju beer stand out. The honey wine is also worthwhile as a classic drink. For a sweet finish, there are desserts like sesame dates and almonds, which form a lovely final highlight of the evening. Every evening, the traditional coffee ceremony is held, where green coffee beans are freshly roasted, and every guest can enjoy the spicy aroma. The finished coffee is drunk from small cups, accompanied by popcorn. It is not bitter, but very strong.
In Schöneberg since 2000, and the neighborhood fits perfectly
Since May 2000, Bejte Ethiopia has offered Ethiopian cuisine in traditionally decorated rooms with typical local music. This makes the restaurant one of the most enduring establishments in Berlin’s gastronomy scene. The Nollendorf Kiez around Winterfeldtplatz and Goltzstraße is known for its vibrant and cosmopolitan dining scene, shaped by the LGBTQ+ community and a multicultural resident structure. If you want a nightcap after dinner, the traditional Green Door Bar on Winterfeldtstraße is a great choice, having won two awards at the Mixology Bar Awards 2025. As Bejte Ethiopia is very popular year-round, it is essential to make a reservation in advance.
