If you want to know where your meat comes from when eating döner, Prenzlauer Berg is the right place. Meraba Neuland Döner on Greifswalder Straße is Berlin's best-known address for organic döner with certified Neuland meat. Transparency, taste, and a familiar neighborhood feel make Meraba one of our favorites.

Meraba Neuland Döner in Prenzlauer Berg: A Snack Bar with History

Meraba Neuland Döner is located at Greifswalder Straße 32, corner Hufelandstraße, right in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg. The place is of a manageable size, but if you can’t find a seat inside, you can sit outside on the wide Prenzlauer Berg sidewalk. Inside, there are window seats, and outside, about ten more seats. The owner himself stands behind the counter and has been doing so for about twenty years. You can tell. The place looks well-maintained, tidy, and completely unpretentious. Greifswalder Straße is also conveniently located directly at a tram stop. If you want to do something afterwards: Volkspark Friedrichshain is within walking distance, as are the numerous cafés and bars around Kastanienallee or Helmholtzplatz.

What makes the Döner at Meraba Neuland Döner so special

The special quality starts with the meat. Meraba Neuland Döner exclusively uses beef and veal from the Neuland label, which stands for GMO-free and animal-welfare-friendly husbandry. The skewer is produced on-site, and the meat comes directly from the nearby Neuland butcher shop Klaus Gerlach across the street. This allows for seamless traceability of the meat’s origin. This makes Meraba one of the few döner shops of its kind in all of Germany. The result on the plate: Juicy, well-cooked döner with crispy lettuce, red cabbage, cucumber, tomato, and onions. It comes with homemade sauces, including a wonderfully spicy option. However, the offerings go beyond the classic döner: Dürüm, Halloumi döner, vegetable döner, homemade falafel, Börek, Turkish lentil soup, and changing daily specials are also on the menu. Recently, warm sauces such as tomato sauce, peanut sauce, or cheddar sauce have even been available for lunch. The price is slightly above the Berlin average, which is absolutely understandable given the quality of the meat. Once you’ve eaten here, you’ll understand why.
