Langes Imbiss has been shining in red and yellow for over 40 years on the corner of Holzhauser Straße in Berlin-Tegel. The homemade currywurst sauce, the sausage with or without casing, and a daily changing selection of Berlin home-style cooking make this stand a culinary hotspot in the north of the city.

Cult on the U6: What’s behind Langes Imbiss

Langes Imbiss has existed for over 40 years. The red-yellow stand is located directly at the Holzhauser Straße intersection in Tegel, in Berlin’s Reinickendorf district. Early risers are rewarded here: The snack bar opens as early as 5:30 AM and serves breakfast. Furthermore, in the 70s, the snack bar was a filming location for the TV series “Drei Damen vom Grill” (Three Ladies from the Grill), which gives the stand its very own history. In the immediate vicinity is the Russian Orthodox Cemetery of Tegel, which is worth a short visit before or after eating. Those coming by subway get off directly at the Holzhauser Straße U6 station. Chef Carsten Lange is a trained master butcher and thus personally ensures the quality of the meat. You can taste it.

What to eat at Langes Imbiss

The Berlin Currywurst tastes classic and solid here. At Langes Imbiss, the sausage is available with or without casing, served with a homemade sauce that stood out to us compared to other stands: spicy, balanced, with real depth. Fries are, of course, included. In addition, the menu changes daily. The fixed menu also includes Schnitzel, Sülze (aspic), Leberkäse (meatloaf), and classics like potatoes with quark and linseed oil or Blutwurst (blood sausage) with sauerkraut. In short: Berlin home-style cooking, as it should be. If you like, you can also order bread rolls, and here there are no bland pre-baked rolls, but real snack bar rolls. Vegetarian main options are generally limited, as the focus is clearly on meat. However, anyone looking for an honest, well-made currywurst in the north of Berlin is guaranteed to go home happy after a visit here.
