Grosz Berlin

The Grosz is a mix of coffee house, restaurant, and bar. It is operated by Borchardt owner Roland Mary. And just like at Borchardt, the celebrity density at Grosz on Kudamm is high. Famous actors and show people mingle here with businesspeople, West Berlin society ladies, and tourists.

The ambiance at Grosz can best be described as a combination of a Viennese Art Nouveau coffee house and a French brasserie. Accessories with patina, such as old mirrors and picture frames, lend a special charm to the interior.

Culinary, several focal points are set. One of them is classic French dishes like Bouillabaisse, which is available in three variations, including a luxury version with lobster and stone crabs. In general, the fish dishes at Grosz enjoy an excellent reputation.

Another large section on the menu is dedicated to steak selection, including Spanish entrecôte and Xata Roxa fillet, US Prime Beef, Elbrind, and “dry-aged” beef from Nebraska.

For those on a smaller budget, the breakfast selection with fresh croissants from the in-house patisserie L’Oui is suitable, or the Afternoon Tea with English sandwiches and delicious cream puffs, called “Choux,” where fine pastries are elegantly served on a three-tiered étagère. Accompanied by a Ganache, i.e., a house-style hot chocolate prepared with Valrhona chocolate and crème fraîche and poured with warm milk – delightful!

By the way, Grosz is named after the famous painter George Grosz, who lived in the neighborhood at Savignyplatz in the 1920s. It aims to evoke that era and lifestyle as part of the renovated and listed Cumberland building. After all, this address was already a meeting point for high society back then.
