This new, urban.looking trend restaurant Hummus & Friends is still an insiders' tip for a truly hip lunch break. The restaurant itself is rather narrow but it's located in the heart of Berlin-Mitte, centrally on Oranienburger Straße. Its strong suit is Hummus, a speciality from the Mediterranian made of mashed chickpeas, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.
The gorgeously creamy Hummus at Hummus & Friends is prepared from peeled chickpeas which get washed several times. There are four variations for you to make your pick from: with egg, fava beans, Tahine and Saue. The side is authentic pita bread and Israeli tapas like balls made of quinoa and chickpea, mixtures of potatoes and sweet potatoes and wonderfully fresh salads like the Freedam Salad with walnuts, pine kernels and cranberries. All dishes are seasoned with authentic Israeli spices and only the finest ingredients.
The best thing to do is to compose a set of several small bows of their great creations and share these healthy, vegetarian delights with your friends - either during lunch break or after work.
The design of this restaurant is pretty much no-frills but still radiates chic. At the entry, right next to an olive tree, you will see stacks with boxes with fresh oranges. The juice here is absolutely fresh - the juicing machine runs overtime. The table are made of rugged wood, there's a lounge corner for chilling out with sofas and comfy lazyboys and in the Kunsthof (Court of the Arts) you can even eat outside, far away from the noisy street.
The food here is vegetarian and kosher, some of the Hummus dishes come with a hard-boiled egg, others are completely vegan.
