Maqu Store and Studio: Label and Atelier in Friedrichshain

At Libauer Straße 4 in Friedrichshain, the salesroom and workshop merge into one. There, Peruvian-born Marisa Fuentes Prado runs her label Maqu, precisely where the collections are created. The shop is also a studio. What’s special about it: the space feels like a creative place, with design sketches on the walls.

Materials with Provenance

The collections of the Berlin label are a mix of art, design, and practicality. Classic cuts with timeless aesthetics are created from materials like alpaca wool or fine Pima cotton. Hemp, Lyocell, recycled fibers, and vegan shoes made from natural rubber are also used. The cotton used is 100 percent organically grown and GOTS-certified.

Short Supply Chains between Berlin and Lima

60 percent of the garments are handmade in Peru, 40 percent in the Berlin studio. Marisa Fuentes Prado is in direct contact with the producers of the raw materials and the tailoring workshops and is familiar with the working conditions on site. In addition, Maqu regularly supports social projects in Peru. In addition to the collections, there are small series and unique pieces made from fabric remnants.
