Maqu Store and Studio: Sustainable Fashion from Friedrichshain with Depth
At Libauer Straße 4 in Friedrichshain, eco-fair fashion has a firm address. There, Peruvian-born Marisa Fuentes Prado runs her label Maqu, precisely where the collections are created. The shop is also a studio where the designer produces sustainable fashion for her eco- and fair-fashion label. What makes it special: The space feels like a creative place, with design sketches on the walls.
Materials with Origin and Statement
The collections of the Berlin label are a mix of art, design, and practicality. From materials like alpaca wool or fine Pima cotton, Marisa Fuentes Prado creates classic cuts with timeless aesthetics. Additionally, Maqu relies on organic cotton, hemp, lyocell, recycled materials, and vegan shoes made from natural rubber. 100% of the cotton used comes from organic farming and is GOTS-certified. This makes the label one of the most consistent addresses for sustainable fashion in Berlin.
Fair Production, Short Supply Chains
60% of the garments are handcrafted in Peru, 40% in the Berlin studio. Marisa Fuentes Prado is in close contact with the producers of the raw materials and the tailors. Maqu guarantees fair working conditions and fair wages. Furthermore, Maqu regularly supports social projects in Peru. In addition to the collections, there are upcycled small series and unique pieces made from fabric scraps. Eco fashion from Berlin that truly makes an impact.
