It matters to me that I know where my clothes come from, and in Berlin that is fortunately easy. I like shops that disclose their materials and production routes instead of advertising with big words. From Supermarché in Kreuzberg to Wertvoll in Prenzlauer Berg, I have put together my favourite addresses for you.
The Supermarché in Wiener Straße carries around 50 labels with fair-trade criteria or organic certification, plus its own hand-printed label Hirschkind. Old wool and cashmere are accepted for further processing, clearly sorted on 100 square meters.

If you want to know where your clothes come from, Marienburger Straße 39 in Prenzlauer Berg is a must-visit. Wertvoll opened in 2009 as one of the first stores of its kind in Berlin and transparently presents the production processes of the brands it carries. Women's and men's fashion in timeless designs.
In Kreuzberg, Sommergold shows that office wear and material awareness go hand in hand. The Berlin label works with BEST and GOTS-certified natural fabrics, predominantly sews in its own studio, and designs models that are not season-bound.
A record store became a fashion boutique: Rotation Boutique at Rosenthaler Platz in Mitte curates over 25 brands across approximately 80 square meters, many with GOTS-certified organic cotton and recycled materials. Fast trends are sought in vain here, and that's precisely the point.
In Libauer Straße in Friedrichshain, designer Marisa Fuentes Prado runs her label Maqu as a store and studio in one. The cotton is 100 percent GOTS-certified, manufactured in Berlin and Lima, and vegan shoes made from natural rubber are also available.
Located on Schivelbeiner Straße in Prenzlauer Berg, one of Germany's first purely vegan fashion stores has been operating since 2012. DearGoods Berlin offers 230 square meters of women's and men's fashion without leather, wool, silk, and fur, made from certified natural materials.
The Grüne Erde shop in Berlin-Mitte, directly on Oranienburger Straße near Hackescher Markt, offers GOTS-certified natural fashion, furniture, and natural cosmetics on 740 square meters. Cotton and linen come from controlled organic cultivation, manufactured in Europe.
In Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg, fashion works on a different principle: instead of buying, borrowing. Kleiderei Berlin lends second-hand, vintage and new items by subscription, repairs damaged items themselves, and keeps clothes in use longer.
Since 1989, Depot2 on Kreuzberg's Oranienstraße has stood for streetwear with attitude. In addition to brands like Iriedaily, Carhartt, and Dickies, there's a dedicated section with items made from organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, and recycled PET, as well as vegan sneakers.
Since the early 90s, UVR Berlin has been designing in Kreuzberg and exclusively manufacturing in Europe: in Portugal, Poland, Greece, and Italy. Today, the label operates three stores in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and Schöneberg.
