Starting from Canoa Beach on Sonneninsel in Neukölln, the canoe tour proceeds along the Neukölln Shipping Canal and the Landwehr Canal to the Oberbaum Bridge. Two and a half hours, 39 Euros, guide and life vest included. At Osthafen, this special city tour in Berlin reveals the preserved remains of the old border control facility from the water.

Canoa Berlin: Guided Canoe Tour through Kreuzkölln

The starting and finishing point is Canoa Beach at Sonnenallee 221 F on Sonneninsel in Neukölln, a beach bar with its own kitchen directly on the water. Lockable lockers are available on site for bags, and small items go into a waterproof canoe barrel. Canoa Berlin does not have its own parking spaces, but public parking is available in the surrounding streets. No prior experience is needed, as each group is continuously accompanied by a guide, and before setting off, a life vest and briefing are provided. The tour lasts about two and a half hours and starts three times a day. Sonneninsel itself is a place many Berliners don’t know, even though it’s located directly on the water between Neukölln and Treptow. Paddling takes place in open canoes, where several people can sit side-by-side, which makes talking along the way much easier than in a kayak. The season runs through the warm months, and even in light rain, the tour still goes ahead.

From the Neukölln Shipping Canal via the Landwehr Canal to the Spree

The route leads from Canoa Beach via the Neukölln Shipping Canal to the Landwehr Canal and from there out onto the Spree. Along the way are Görlitzer Ufer and Lohmühleninsel at the Oberschleuse, two spots that are hardly visible from the shore. Further east, the group makes a detour to Molecule Man, Oberbaum Bridge, and Spreespeicher. At Osthafen, the remnants of the former border control facility from the time of division are still preserved today, and the guides explain how water control worked back then. In between, they share interesting facts about Berlin’s history and anecdotes about the city’s two most colorful districts. The Canoa Berlin sightseeing tour costs 39 Euros, reduced to 25 Euros for children and teenagers up to 16 years old. If you don’t want to leave right away, you can stay at the Beach Bar. In addition to the sightseeing tour, there are guided canoe tours for teams, school groups, and bachelor parties, as well as canoe rental.
