The Vagantenbühne is one of Berlin’s oldest private theaters. The cellar theater was founded in 1949 by Christian-motivated amateurs. Today, it shares its building with the jazz club Quasimodo and the Delphi-Filmpalast — a house that is a cultural experience in itself. Since January 2020, Lars Georg Vogel has been leading the Vagantenbühne, continuing what the house stands for: theater that doesn’t look away. The theater presents four to five new productions annually. The concept emphasizes great openness in program design. The playbill combines contemporary texts with modern interpretations of classical material, focusing on present-day conflicts and power dynamics. Youth development is also highly valued here: authors present excerpts from current theater texts at the Vagantenbühne in collaboration with directing students from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts.
