For an evening with some glamour, Berlin has a whole range of big stages. At the top sits the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Mitte, whose proscenium is among the widest in Europe at around 24 metres and whose grand shows work with a ballet company, a live band and a retractable water basin. The Theater des Westens on Kantstrasse runs several musical productions side by side, while the Theater am Potsdamer Platz has hosted the first permanent European show of the Cirque du Soleil since 2025. Things get smaller and more personal at the Wintergarten Varieté, with its starry ceiling above just under 500 seats, and at the Tipi am Kanzleramt, where almost every guest sits at a table and eats during the performance. If you would rather laugh, head for the Quatsch Comedy Club in the basement of the Palast, and for big touring productions from musicals to ballet the Admiralspalast is worth the trip.

I like evenings when the stage pulls out all the stops, with music, light and a proper dose of glamour. For this list I gathered the loveliest Berlin musical and show stages, from the huge show palace to the intimate comedy club. It was important to me that there is something for every taste, whether a big production or small, fine variety art. The result is ten houses that turn an evening into an experience.
Located on northern Friedrichstraße, the Friedrichstadt-Palast features one of the world's largest theater stages with an approximately 24-meter-wide portal, along with 1,899 seats and a retractable water basin holding about 160,000 liters. Since 2020, the 1984 building has been a protected monument in all its aspects, attracting over 700,000 guests annually.
The Theater des Westens on Kantstrasse opened in 1896 to plans by Bernhard Sehring and combines a neo-baroque auditorium with a stage tower shaped like a medieval keep. In 1961 the German-language premiere of My Fair Lady ran here for two years and paved the way for the musical in Germany. Today around 1.600 seats fill the house.
Renzo Piano's Theater am Potsdamer Platz opened in 1999, seats 1,754 guests, and has been home to Cirque du Soleil's first permanent European show since 2025. Behind the 35-meter-high glass facade lies the grand staircase, and every year during the Berlinale, the venue transforms into the Berlinale Palast, the main screening location for the film festival.
The Wintergarten Varieté on Potsdamer Straße continues a name that began on Friedrichstraße in 1888, where it hosted the world's first commercial film screening in 1895. The current venue opened in 1992, accommodates nearly 500 guests, and presents its own productions of acrobatics, music, and comedy in a hall with a starry sky.
The Tipi am Kanzleramt, Europe's largest stationary tent stage, is located in the middle of the Großer Tiergarten, between the Federal Chancellery and the House of World Cultures. Guests sit almost exclusively at tables across 800 square meters, where food is served during the performance, and in front of the tent is a beer garden with a view of the Chancellery.
The Admiralspalast on Friedrichstraße was built in 1911 over an accidentally discovered brine spring and once united a thermal bath, ice palace, bowling alleys, and a cinema under one roof. Today, the listed building is a guest performance venue with around 1,600 seats, a preserved Emperor's Box, and original, hand-operated stage machinery.
Since 2002, the Quatsch Comedy Club Berlin has been performing in the former Kleine Revue in the basement of the Friedrichstadt-Palast. It was founded in 1992 by Thomas Hermanns, and to this day, four comedians and a host take the stage here each evening. Additionally, there's a newcomer competition and an open mic in the bar on the upper tier.
The Stage Bluemax Theater on Marlene-Dietrich-Platz was originally an IMAX cinema designed by Renzo Piano and was converted in 2007 for the Blue Man Group, which had its own venue here until 2025. Today the compact auditorium with around 600 seats works as a guest performance venue for musicals, currently Fack Ju Göhte.
The Estrel Showtheater in Neukölln belongs to Germany's largest hotel and has been hosting the impersonator revue Stars in Concert since 1997, which is now in its 29th season. With 1,120 square meters, it accommodates up to 1,000 guests, includes three bars, and features a summer garden by the canal and a private boat dock right outside.

The Tempodrom started in 1980 as a circus tent at Potsdamer Platz and has stood since 2001 as a concrete building with a 37-meter-high folding roof on the site of the former Anhalter Bahnhof. The Great Arena accommodates up to 4,200 guests and is built like a modern amphitheater; in the basement, there is a saltwater pool 13 meters in diameter under a concrete dome.
