The small but exquisite Schlosspark Theater in Steglitz has been managed as a private theater by Dieter Hallervorden since 2008 and has since experienced a renaissance.
Under the direction of Dieter Hallervorden, the Schlosspark Theater – largely self-financed – was extensively rebuilt and renovated and awoke from its slumber. Per season, usually six in-house productions are staged, with 40 performances planned for each.
A very diverse program is offered, which is well-received by the audience: In addition to the aforementioned in-house productions, guest performances are also on the program, as well as cabaret and readings, concerts, dance, children’s programs, and programs of the YAS (Young Schlosspark Theater). In cooperation with the LiteraturInitiative Berlin, readings for children and young people are organized.
The engagement of well-known actors and actresses is also a crowd-puller, and productions in which Dieter Hallervorden himself performs are often quickly sold out.
The history of the Schlosspark Theater dates back to its founding year 1804, when it was opened as part of the Gutshaus Steglitz. The theater reached its heyday after the Second World War when Boleslaw Barlog managed it for 27 years. Hildegard Knef made her debut at the Schlosspark Theater. Renowned contemporary dramatists were presented in German premieres. Samuel Beckett even personally directed his famous “Waiting for Godot”. Other great names included Berta Drews, Marianne Hoppe, Bernhard Minetti, Carl Raddatz, Arthur Wiesner, Peter Ustinov, and many others.
The current motto of the Schlosspark Theater under Hallervorden’s direction is: “Spirit with Humor”
