The fountain, a few hundred meters from the Bundestag, the German parliament, is surrounded by stones on which are engraved the names of the concentration camps where men, women and children of the Sinti and Roma communities were killed. On the edge of the monument are engraved the verses of the composition ‘Auschwitz’, by the Italian poet of Roma ethnicity Santino Spinelli: “Sunk face / dull eyes / cold lips / silence / a torn heart / without breath / without words / without tears”.
