Easter at Extavium: Research instead of Boredom

The scientific hands-on museum Extavium appeals to everyone who wants to learn more about natural phenomena with its interactive exhibition and numerous experimental courses. So, anyone planning a trip from Berlin to Potsdam during the Easter holidays will find much more than a classic museum here. In the exhibition area, visitors can freeze their shadows, see invisible light, build bridges, make chocolate kisses explode, build a tricky labyrinth for real mice, and even touch Pythagoras’ theorem. It sounds like fun, and it is. At the same time, it involves real scientific learning that happens almost incidentally.

Extavium’s offerings are aimed at children and adults of all ages. For very young explorers from 6 months onwards, there is a dedicated “Wichtelwelt” (gnome world). This makes a relaxed visit possible even with toddlers. Within the scientific hands-on museum, visitors explore various themed worlds: optics and acoustics, mechanics and energy, chemistry and biology, geology and mathematics. Therefore, sufficient time should be planned for a complete tour.

The Slime Course: The Highlight of the Easter Holidays

A visit to the Extavium is particularly worthwhile during the Easter holidays. The Extavium in Potsdam offers a specially bookable experimental course on the topic of slime during Easter. This gooey experiment fascinates children of all ages. Using pipettes, glasses, food coloring, glitter, and other exciting lab equipment, guests mix, stir, and shake their Extavium slime to take home afterward. Thus, each child leaves the museum not only with an “aha” moment but also with a self-made souvenir. A course lasts about 30 minutes and costs 7.50 Euros per person.

Additionally: During the Easter holidays from April 12th to 27th, 2025, the Extavium is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with Easter Sunday being an exception. Admission starts from 14 Euros, and public parking is available nearby. An Easter excursion to Potsdam is therefore doubly worthwhile, as the city center with its parks and the canal invites visitors to stroll further afterward.
