The Paint your Style studio in Charlottenburg sits at Bleibtreustrasse 46, on a quiet side street between Kurfuerstendamm and Kantstrasse. Savignyplatz station is the recommendation of the house itself, the stations Uhlandstrasse and Kurfuerstendamm are within walking distance too, and bookshops, cafes and restaurants line the streets around for the time before or afterwards. The principle is the same in every studio: you pick a ceramic shape in the shop, paint it at long tables with colours, brushes, stencils and templates, hand it in and get it back a few days later once it has been fired. The Charlottenburg studio belongs to a chain with several houses in Berlin and further branches in Germany and Austria, but it runs its own dates and keeps its own selection of shapes. Outside parties a minimum order per person applies, and companions who do not paint pay a seat fee. Besides the painting there are baby footprints, offers for schools and nurseries and a firing service for clay brought in from elsewhere.

Pick a blank, paint it, collect it after firing

For parties Paint your Style keeps two packages ready, and both are charged by the painted piece. In the first, a breakfast plate, a mug or a small bowl costs 20 euros each; in the second, a large bowl, a cupcake box or a heart-shaped pot costs 25 euros, and there a friendship plate is included. In both cases a short painting briefing, invitation cards in two designs, a laid and decorated birthday table, a drink for each child and a present for the birthday child are part of it. The shapes may be mixed freely across the packages. A party runs an hour and a half to two hours, or up to two and a half for a surcharge of three euros per participant. There is room for six to ten children and two adult companions. The package is officially advertised for children from ten to sixteen, so it covers the upper end of this list, and for younger groups it is worth asking at the studio. Cake may be brought along, and the crockery for it is laid out on request.
